Abstract
Although some chldren are born with a tendency that favors either behavioral inhibition or lack of inhibition to the unfamiliar as a result of low or high thresholds of exitability in limbic structure, the physiological and the psycohological
qualities
are malleable to alteration with proper experience.
Many inhibited children have learned to react to the experience of uncertainty with less timidity. Such children may acquire the ability to interrupt the prepared response of withdrawal and inhibition. As these coping responses become stronger,
they
might even mute the ancertainty and autonomic arousal that occur in unfamiliar settings.
